NeuroComplex Executive Function Coaching

THE PERFECT COACH FOR COMPLEX LEARNERS

Turning everyday challenges into lasting skills for Complex Learners

NeuroComplex Executive Function Coaching is designed for students with layered neurodiversity
, those managing multiple diagnoses like autism, anxiety, OCD, or learning disabilities. These students often need more than standard coaching strategies.

We help them build core executive function skills like emotional regulation, task initiation, and cognitive flexibility through a strength-based, collaborative approach. By working with their natural patterns—not against them—we empower students to move from frustration to sustainable success in school and life.

Does Your child need a different Approach?

We help complex learners thrive through
individualized, neuroaffirming coaching

Our NeuroComplex Coaching is designed for students with complex neurodiversity, particularly those navigating multiple diagnoses or traits that make it challenging for them to thrive with conventional strategies. This level of care expands upon Illuminos’ foundational EF coaching model, offering more personalized, flexible, and affirming support for students who need it most.

NeuroComplex Coaching services support students who display traits consistent with:

Autism, with cognitive rigidity, high sensory needs, or social challenges; ADHD, with executive dysfunction and significant self-regulatory challenges; Pathological Demand Avoidance (PDA) or Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD); Anxiety, OCD, or perfectionism-related task paralysis; Depression, with motivation and energy regulation difficulties; Autism in combination with multiple learning differences

Why our NeuroComplex coaching is different

NeuroComplex coaching supports the foundational needs of complex learners. Before tangible academic strategies, like organization, time management, and study skills, can take root, these students often require tailored support in additional executive function areas, specifically
emotional regulation, sensory processing, and flexible thinking.

NeuroComplex Coaching meets students where they are, building the base that makes higher-level skills accessible.

Focus Beyond Task Management

In our NeuroComplex coaching service, we start with self-regulation, task initiation, and emotional readiness. We also emphasize energy management alongside time management and integrate cognitive flexibility and emotional regulation into the core coaching.

Strength-Based Neuro-Affirming Approach

Our coaching responds with compassion and clarity. We are collaborative, not coercive – students co-create their strategies; custom-tailored – every learner receives a personalized Complex Care Plan; rooted in self-awarenesswe teach students to understand and advocate for their neurotype. Our goal is not compliance, but connection—building skills through trust and relevance.

Prioritize Emotional Regulation & Cognitive Flexibility

Many students with complex neurodiversity know what to do, but struggle to follow through due to executive overload, anxiety, or perfectionism. NeuroComplex coaching directly addresses these barriers.

We focus on metacognition, helping students recognize their own thinking patterns, cognitive flexibility, and teaching them how to adapt, problem-solve, and “reset.” We also support emotional regulation, promoting stress management and recovery from being overwhelmed.

Instead of just driving productivity, we build the core capacities needed for sustainable, meaningful progress, in school and beyond.

What Parents Can Expect

Our NeuroComplex service is guided by a team of Illuminos-certified Executive Function Coaches who receive continuous training and supervision from licensed professionals. This ensures every student receives informed, developmentally appropriate support.

  • COMPREHENSIVE COMPLEXCARE PLAN

Each student receives an individualized NeuroComplex Care Plan, created collaboratively with our coaching team and licensed specialists. The plan builds on Illuminos’ proven coaching framework and expands it to include the psychoeducational needs of both the student and family, based on the child’s unique neurotype.

  • WEEKLY ONE-ON-ONE COACHING SESSIONS

Each week, students meet with an Illuminos-certified Executive Function Coach for highly individualized coaching sessions. For complex learners, these sessions go beyond our standard EF strategies to address nuanced challenges with individualized advanced coaching strategizing, such as motivational interviewing and declarative language.

  • PARENT COLLABORATION & EDUCATION

Strong outcomes depend on strong partnerships. In NeuroComplex Coaching, we work closely with parents and others in the student’s support circle to align home expectations, reinforce strategies, and provide meaningful insight into executive function development. This includes a weekly parent meeting with your child’s coach and a monthly meeting that includes our board-certified cognitive specialist.

Wondering what progress looks like when support finally fits your child?

Parents’ hopes turn into real,

We partner with families to align goals with how their child’s brain works, strengthen support systems at home through clearer communication, and build a shared understanding of how complex neurodiversity affects executive function. With the right strategies and collaboration, students move from daily frustration to sustainable, self-directed progress—on their terms.

  • "Katie understands that success isn't just about strategies; it’s about supporting the whole individual. Her approach is deeply rooted in research across cognition, behaviorism, mental health, and neuroscience."

Working with Illuminos and Katie has been a breath of fresh air. She facilitates neuroplasticity, helping learners heal from past educational traumas and move forward with new skills and behaviors that allow them to thrive in both current and future environments.

Katie brings a truly holistic neuro-support approach to coaching our son. Traditional ADHD and executive functioning coaches often focus primarily on processes, procedures, and strategies, rarely addressing the emotional and cognitive domains that are essential for meaningful behavioral change. Katie understands that success isn't just about strategies; it’s about supporting the whole individual. Her approach is deeply rooted in research across cognition, behaviorism, mental health, and neuroscience.

She recognizes the complex, interconnected dynamics that can overwhelm both learners and their families. She also understands how co-occurring neurodivergent and mental health challenges impact a learner’s ability to succeed. Her coaching supports the entire spectrum of neurofunctionality, providing the scaffolding and mechanisms learners need to recognize internal and external triggers, implement appropriate behavioral modifications, and build sustainable habits that drive lasting, positive change.

  • "Katie understands my child with such depth and compassion. With her expertise and knowledge, she knows how to approach my child in each session in a way that will best help my child grow - whether that be emotionally, academically or in her executive functioning skills."

Katie understands my child with such depth and compassion. With her expertise and knowledge, she knows how to approach my child in each session in a way that will best help my child grow - whether that be emotionally, academically or in her executive functioning skills. On top of all of that, Katie knows how to talk with us as parents. She often "bridges the gap" of parenting a neurodiverse child so that we can more fully meet our child's needs and our child can more fully understand our hopes for them.

    - Katherine C., Mom of 12th Grader

  • "Illuminos can help with organization, mentoring and coaching, along with subject tutoring; my daughter’s coach’s presence has kept my child on track."

I’ve been working with Katie for about six months now and the improvement that I have seen has been drastic, unlike other executive functioning coaches. Katie is much more than that. She takes all factors into consideration when it comes to understanding neurodivergent individuals. When I started with Katie, I was very anxious and not structured with my schoolwork. I was often falling behind with my assignments. Katie understands that there are more factors that go into being able to complete work then just scheduling and standard approaches. She took the necessary time to understand me as an individual to help me work better. She makes me feel very comfortable and open.

A Different Kind of Support

How This Program Differs from Therapy

NeuroComplex Executive Function Coaching is not a therapeutic service—it’s a skills-based, coaching model that complements (but does not replace) therapy.

At Illuminos, we:

  • Teach practical executive function strategies

  • Focus on skill-building, not mental health treatment

  • Provide psychoeducation, not psychological counseling

  • Collaborate with therapists and refer out when clinical intervention is needed

If a student is experiencing significant emotional distress, self-harm behaviors, or mood-related disruptions, we work closely with their therapeutic team to ensure coordinated care.
